It’s a incredible true story. A veritable adventure film between the Himalaya, the WWII, the prison, the struggle for survival, the Tibet, his relation with the Dalaï-Lama… Brad Pitt is so young! Landscapes are incredible, they crossed more than 65 passes over 5,000 meters altitude to go to Lhasa, after a 20-months of trecking, whose the desert of Gobi ?.

It’s easy. This movie is a Masterchief like Forrest Gump. A film so inspirational. All actors are incredible. The scenario is striking. I think I am in love of Freida Pinto.

Excited and intrigued, he sets out to find it. The Beach is a 2000 drama adventure film directed by Danny Boyle and based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Alex Garland.

With Into the Wild, The Beach has been determining factor in my desire to travel the planet. When I was young, I dreamed about a paradisiac island like in the movie. I finished my Australia road trip on Gili Island in Indonesia (it’s not the same like in the movie ?) but I still enjoyed myself. I love so much this movie that I read twice the book. After nine months in Australia and 6 months in South America, henceforth, I am looking for a different adventure. This film is inspirational.

THE BOUNTY

The film is based on the true story of Lt. William Bligh, against whom a mutiny is directed by second-in-command Fletcher Christian, on his own ship, the Bounty. This version fits Fletcher Christian’s efforts to lead his men against British tyranny and Captain Bligh’s epic journey to lead his followers to the Dutch East Indies in a tiny boat.

Carter decides to write a list where he writes down everything he would like to do before his death; for him, his list is nothing serious but Edward falls on it and convinces him to go and realize his dreams. Eventually, they manage to fulfill all the wishes on their list in a totally unexpected way.

Everyone needs to watch this movie at some point in their life.

THE CALL OF THE WILD

The Call of the Wild is an American film directed by Chris Sanders, released in 2020. It is the adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jack London. This film combines motion capture and real shots. A sled dog struggles for survival in the wilds of the Yukon.

Jack London is one of my favorite authors. I read many books from him: White Fang, Martin Eden and my favorite The Call of the Wild. If I were you, first, I would read the book before watching the film. I went to an exhibition of his trip in south sea with his boat Le Snark. It was very interessing, if you have the opportunity, don’t hesite!

THE CLIMB

A young man from the suburbs with no mountaineering experience decides to climb Mt Everest to show a woman he’d do anything for her. This film is a free adaptation of the work of Nadir Dendoune, “Un tocard sur le toit du monde”. He reached the summit of Everest on May 25, 2008, without any particular experience in mountaineering, becoming at the same time the first Franco-Algerian to reach the roof of the world.

I passed a great time, Ahmed Sylla is a great humorist but also a great actor. Is there anything more beautiful than a mountain devoid of human passage?

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON

Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with consequences. The film received generally positive reviews. The film was nominated for thirteen Oscars, including Best Film, Best Director for David Fincher, Best Actor for Pitt and Best Secondary Actress for Taraji P. Henson, and won three: Best Art Direction, Best Makeup and Best visual effects.

The script looks wacky but I have been carried out by the story. Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt are both incredible actors. The story take us trough New Orleans, the life on the sea, the war, the love… I passed a very good time. David Fincher, you are a king!

THE HOBBIT (TRILOGY)

J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings told from the perspective of the hobbits.

I put this movie here only for the landscapes of New-Zealand. It’s so beautiful! There are so many incredible trecks to do through the country. Do you know that you can visit the village of Hobbits? You can even request the stamp on your passport “Welcome to Middle Earth.” Amazing! To go there, you have to stop in Matamata.

THE LAST EMPOROR

The story of the final Emperor of China. It is the first Western film to have received the full collaboration of the Chinese authorities since 1949, and also the first Western film to have been shot in the Forbidden City. Crowned by 9 Oscars, including those for Best Film and Best Director, César for Best Foreign Film with 19,000 extras, 9,000 costumes and 300 Italian, English and Chinese technicians, the film required more than 6 months of shooting. The Last Emperor remains to this day one of the largest frescoes ever made in the cinema.

THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS

Three trappers protect the daughters of a British Colonel in the midst of the French and Indian War.
This film is incredible! I love historical movies. Daniel Day Lewis is a fabulous actor! Each film that he played is a masterpiece (in Gang of New York, his role William « Bill le Boucher » Cutting is my favorite!). To slip into the skin of Nathaniel Hawkeye of The Last of the Mohicans, Daniel Day Lewis spent several weeks alone living like a hermit in the middle of nature, in Alabama. “If he didn’t chase what he ate, he didn’t eat,” said Michael Mann. Lewis also learned to use a tomahawk, track animals, build a canoe and use his famous rifle. Note that after the shooting of the film, the actor had to seek treatment because he suffered from claustrophobia and various hallucinations. CRAZY!

THE LAST TRAPPER

A trapper and his wife brave the harsh Yukon climate, trecherous landscape and dangerous wildlife in an attempt to live a life of solitude. The last Trapper is a French documentary and fiction film directed by Nicolas Vanier in 2004. It recounts a year in the life of Norman Winther, one of the last traditional trappers in the Canadian Yukon.

THE LORD OF THE RING (TRILOGY)

A meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.

THE LOST CITY OF Z

A true-life drama, centering on British explorer Major Percival Fawcett, who disappeared whilst searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon in the 1920s. The Lost City of Z is an American historic adventure film written and directed by James Gray, released in 2016. It is an adaptation of the story The Lost City of Z by David Grann, himself inspired by the adventures of Percy Fawcett.

I have a particular attirance about Amazonia. I try to watch the most films possible. I have a particular attirance for Charlie Hunnam, What a great actor! Big up to Percy Fawcett, a true adventurer, passionate until his disparition, outstanding explorator looking for the city of gold, in the legend forever.

THE NEW WOLRD

The story of the English exploration of Virginia, and of the changing world and loves of Pocahontas. The New World is an American film directed by Terrence Malick, released in 2005.

THE ODYSSEY

The aquatic adventure of the highly influential and fearlessly ambitious pioneer, innovator, filmmaker, researcher, and conservationist, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, covers roughly thirty years of an inarguably rich in achievements life. The Odyssey is a French biographical film co-written and directed by Jérôme Salle, released in 2016. It is a portrait of Jacques-Yves Cousteau who also places great importance on his relationships with his youngest son, Philippe Cousteau.

Despite his frescoes, the emblematic French figure, Jacques-Yves Cousteau has made thousands of children (including me) dream through his films and documentaries. the relationship with his son and his change of vision towards the planet make the film a very interesting work.
